In 1950, Katherine Proctor leaves Ireland for Barcelona, hoping to escape her family and pursue life as a painter. There she falls in love with Miguel, an anarchist and veteran of the Spanish Civil War. However, her attempt at reinvention falters when Michael Graves, another Irish exile, reawakens questions about her past, her art, her homeland, and even her devotion to Miguel.
