Gene Gallerano

Gene Gallerano is an Emmy, Grammy, and Peabody Award-winning producer, filmmaker, and actor whose work spans from heart-pounding adventure stories to deeply human character studies. He got his start in Hollywood with a small acting role in Wes Anderson's cult classic Bottle Rocket, and since then his films, both narrative and documentary, have traveled the world, premiering from Anchorage to Berlin. His projects feature a remarkable roster of talent, including Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Ethan Hawke, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Peter Sarsgaard, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Denis O'Hare, Olympia Dukakis, Reed Birney, Paul Benjamin, and Lorelei Linklater. Gene is the writer, director, and actor of the creature feature The Yeti, a character-driven monster movie that blends Americana and myth, starring Brittany Allen (Dexter: Original Sin), Eric Nelsen (1883), Corbin Bernsen (LA Law, Psych, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), William Sadler (The Shawshank Redemption), Christina Bennett Lind (House of Cards, Atlanta), Heather Lind (TURN, Demolition, Your Friends and Neighbors), and Jim Cummings (Thunder Road). He is also a co-producer on the limited series The Savant, starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Matthew Heineman, produced for Apple TV+. As an Executive Producer, Gene helped bring to life the Grammy-winning and Oscar-shortlisted documentary American Symphony, which follows musician Jon Batiste and writer Suleika Jaouad through an extraordinary year of love, art, and resilience. Directed by Matthew Heineman and produced by Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground, the film premiered at Telluride and went on to win the Critics' Choice, PGA, and Pare Lorentz Awards, with nominations from BAFTA and others. Gene is also a producer on the Peabody Award-winning National Geographic and Disney+ series Photographer from Oscar-winning duo Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, the team behind Free Solo and The Rescue. Premiering at SXSW, Photographer earned nominations from the ASC, NAACP, Cinema Eye, Independent Spirit, Emmy, and GLAAD awards. In 2021, Gene produced ten episodes of Edge of the Unknown with Jimmy Chin for National Geographic and Disney+, an electrifying docuseries that follows the world's most elite adventure athletes including Alex Honnold, Justine Dupont, Conrad Anker, Travis Rice, and Angel Collinson as they face the limits of human performance and risk. Previously, Gene co-produced the Emmy-winning and Oscar-shortlisted documentary The First Wave, directed by Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, Retrograde). Embedded inside New York City's ICUs during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gene and the team captured history in real time. The film won Emmys for Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing, and was distributed by Nat Geo, Participant, and Neon for Hulu. His documentary, Thank You For Listening, is about Country and Americana musician Joshua Ray Walker.
