Chad Wiebe

Birthplace: Manitoba - Canada

Chad Wiebe is a Canadian visual effects supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic. Born and raised in Manitoba, he attended Red River College, where he initially studied graphic design and illustration. While enrolled in the Advanced Diploma Program, he had the opportunity to focus on computer animation. This turning point shifted his passion from graphic design to visual effects in film. He began his industry career at Frantic Films (now Prime Focus) in Winnipeg, where he spent eleven years working as a generalist, computer graphics artist, and digital effects specialist. He rose through the ranks and, in 2008, was promoted to visual effects supervisor—a role he would continue to develop over the following decade. Wiebe's early credits include high‑intensity simulation-based sequences such as the explosions in Swordfish (2001), the slow‑motion train battle in Sucker Punch (2011), and the bridge collapse in Final Destination 5 (2011). These sequences showcased his expertise in destruction and heavy simulation effects. He later contributed to major blockbuster tentpoles, including the oil rig collapse and tornado scenes in Man of Steel (2013), and multiple Marvel projects such as Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Doctor Strange (2016), and Thor: Ragnarok (2017). In the fall of 2016, Wiebe joined Industrial Light & Magic's Vancouver studio as a visual effects supervisor. Since then, he has overseen VFX work on numerous high‑profile film and television projects. His recent roles include supervising Marvel's Thunderbolts (2025), where he helped define the look of the Void character and bring New York City environments to life. That production timeline began in mid‑2023, paused during the WGA strike, and saw Wiebe joining ILM's involvement in early 2024. Wiebe has received industry recognition for his work. In 2021, he earned nominations at the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) Awards for Outstanding Visual Effects – Theatrical Feature for Jungle Cruise (2021), where he was jointly credited through ILM, and for Outstanding Visual Effects – Episodic (Under 13 Episodes) for Loki: Journey Into Mystery (2021).
