Mathew Cowie is an animation supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic. He joined ILM in 2012, and his credits include Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014), Doctor Strange (2016), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Black Widow (2021). In Doctor Strange (2016), he worked on the striking "New York Mirror Dimension" sequences and, together with colleagues Landis R. Fields IV, Frederic Medioni, and Faraz Hameed, received a nomination for a Visual Effects Society (VES) Award in 2017 for Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Photoreal Project. For Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Cowie again served as an animation supervisor at ILM. His contribution to this film earned him, along with collaborators Craig Hammack, David Seager, and Daniel Sudick, a nomination for Best Visual Effects from both the Houston Film Critics Society and the Hawaii Film Critics Society in 2023. Cowie's longstanding relationship with ILM also features contributions to other major films. He is credited as one of the ILM animation supervisors on Mank (2020), where he worked under the guidance of Pablo Helman.
