Mateo Méndez (Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 24, 2005) is a director, cinematographer and film editor. He is currently completing his degree in Audiovisual Design at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE). His work spans several short films, including Eterno Retorno (2024), his directorial debut; Clérambault (2025), his first project as lead cinematographer; and La Casaca (2025), in which he worked as both cinematographer and editor. La Casaca was selected for four international film festivals, including the Lift-Off Global Network’s First-Time Filmmaker Sessions in the United Kingdom. His approach to filmmaking is driven by an interest in the immersive power of cinematic images with the ability of a film to draw audiences into a fictional universe and allow them to experience its spaces, atmosphere and emotions alongside its characters. His creative perspective is informed by the visual precision and atmospheric work of cinematographers such as Roger Deakins, as well as by the immersive and ambitious storytelling of filmmakers including Steven Spielberg or Robert Zemeckis. Through his work, he seeks to explore visual storytelling, atmosphere and the relationship between camera, light and narrative, creating films that allow the world to feel emotionally and physically connected to the worlds depicted on screen.
