Michal Indrak is a Czech-born, UK-based film director, cinematographer, and editor whose work moves between narrative fiction, experimental shorts, and found-footage documentary, built around structural precision and emotionally resonant storytelling. He wrote, directed, shot, and edited his debut short Whispers: Waves of the Diary, an experimental film essay that poetically explores the coastal town of Whitstable through a sensorial, non-narrative lens, drawing on the French avant-garde traditions of Germaine Dulac and Jean Epstein. The film won Best First-Time Director at the Ottawa Film Awards and Best Cinematography at the Red Moon Film Festival, alongside further international recognition including an honourable mention at the Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival. His follow-up, Replaced, a psychological sci-fi short exploring the intersection of AI, mental health, and human connection, is currently on the festival circuit. Michal is now in development on his first feature, Ashes of Courage, a WWII drama inspired by his own great-grandparents' experience in Nazi-occupied Slovakia. He studied Film and Media Practice at Birkbeck, University of London, and holds directing and cinematography certificates from Raindance London, where he also founded and serves as President of the Birkbeck Short Filmmaking Society, running live sets and coordinating crews for student productions.
