A poet with a long career and a cadenced, harmonious production, he also cultivates narrative, essays, and dramatic texts. His first published book, De la tierra adentro (From Inland), was released in 1981. It was followed by Sonata breve con desnudo y lluvia (1988), La luna en los álamos (1991)—which won the Fray Luis de León Prize—La noche desolada (1998)—winner of the Alfonso VIII Prize—Memoria del silencio (2000), Palabras para conjugar tu nombre (2009), El corazón desnudo (2015), and Las manos vacías (2022). In 2017, Música callada (an anthology spanning 1980–2015) was published by Olcades. As a fiction writer, he has published the short story collections Las lágrimas (1984) and Todos los peces se llaman Eduardo (2007). His work as a columnist is reflected in the volume Ejercicios de caligrafía (2002), published solo, and Cien columnas (2005), published in collaboration with his colleagues from Columna Cinco. Furthermore, he prepared and wrote the edition, introduction, and notes for the volume A vuelapluma. Ángel Luis Mota en 197 columnas y media (2010). As a playwright, he has premiered the plays Las hormigas (2012) and La frontera (2014); both theatrical pieces, along with Los pasos contados (unpremiered), were collected in a single volume published in 2020. Since January 2015, he has been a full member of the Royal Conquense Academy of Arts and Letters (RACAL), an institution he joined with an induction speech published that same month and year, titled Gramática de la luz, sintaxis del color: la palabra soñada de Diego Jesús Jiménez (Grammar of Light, Syntax of Color: The Dreamed Word of Diego Jesús Jiménez).
